My Recorded assessment was created by welsh collie
My assessment for moving from Incapacity benefit to employment support allowance.
I just wanted to let people know about how i was treated when i requested a recorded assessment, the original assessment was cancelled and they said they would contact me when the equipment were available in my city.A week after my first appointment which had been cancelled i got a letter from DWP asking why i had not attended ,i rang atos they said dont reply to the letter somehow ,Got a new date i rang the call center yes the recording mach in will be there and you will have a copy,i arrived and i was made to wait two hours befor i was called in almost immediately i realised there was no machine i asked why and was greeted with bemusement i have no record of you wishing to have this assessment recorded the health care professional left and returned with a quite angry and loud woman who said well you can leave or you can sign this disclaimer saying your happy to not have the recording done ,i felt bullied and intimidated and signed the disclaimer and the assessment went ahead.
I now realise this was probably a tactic they use get you there make you wait for two hours they say well your here now so lets just get it done .I feel that i was bullied by the aggressive woman who pushed this document for me to sign in my face very loud and quite aggressive .
I have yet to hear the outcome of the assessment
My advice is to stand your ground and demand the recording

Whilst most requests seem to be honoured, there does seem a relatively large number of assessments, where either the equipment is not available, does not work, or the recording turns out to be blank.
The difficulty that claimants face is that despite ministerial assurances on the availability of recording, there has been no change to the law surrounding the recording of assessments, which remains at the discretion of ATOS, the claimant has no legal right to insist that the assessment is recorded, and no redress if it is not.
My best advice is to take a companion, and for one, or both of you, to covertly record the assessment in addition to any recording that ATOS may make.
If the recording facilities are not available, then only the claimant can make a decision on whether to continue or not, but I would remind everybody that the DWP have stated that there being no recording equipment, will not be accepted as Good Cause for failing to attend, if ATOS report it as a failure.

I would certainly be inclined to make a formal complaint to atos and also write to your MP and make them aware of the way you were treated by this outfit.
