hi

I'm an old hand at completing DLA forms having applied for my mum, my husband, myself and my son and been successful. Only ever had problems with my son's which took 3 attempts. My 11 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with autism and everyone keeps saying oh you'll get if for her no problem.......I know it's not that simple but I'd rather put the extra hard work in now instead of appealing/re-applying if i can. She has a rare inflammatory condition too for which I applied last year and was refused. She has history of epilepsy and also has hyper mobility and anxiety disorder. Would really appreciate any advice, hints, tips website links to help.

Thanks
Yvonne

Hi Mum and Welcome to Benefits and Work ,

I'm sorry to hear that you have had to gain so much experience in completing DLA applications! As you know, DLA is awarded because of care and mobility needs, not specific conditions, so it is these that you should concentrate on when filling in the forms.

In addition to our excellent guide, you might find that the National Autistic Society are able to provide some help and advice.

We also have a set of DLA FAQs that you might find helpful

See also A-Z of Medical Conditions where you can check out your daughters medical conditions.

This medical guidance (for adults and children ) for Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance Decision Makers has been developed by the Department's Health and Wellbeing Directorate with help from experts involved in patient care. It contains background information on the more common medical conditions in DLA/AA claims, their treatment, the likely disabling effects together with the likely impact on ability to self care and get around.
