I don't know if this post will be allowed.

This is a link to a petition to sign against Mandatory Reconsideration and payment of ESA being stopped whilst this takes place if found fit for work.

Will claimants be able to claim housing benefit during this “mandatory reconsideration ” stage if they are unable to face claiming JSA or are simply too ill to qualify for JSA?

If not a lot of mentally ill people could/will find themselves homeless.

It is really not our area, but I believe you can make a zero income claim for Housing Benefit.

DWP notify the housing people that the claimant is no longer being paid ESA and housing benefit also ceases until the claimant contacts them and asks to claim on the grounds of low (or zero) income.

Would people in this situation therefore have to submit a fresh housing benefit claim, or could they just let the housing benefit office know that they intend to appeal, as is the case at present.

As previously posted we do not advise on Housing Benefit so you should check with you Local Authority or Welfare Advice centre, but I would be surprised if a new claim is required.
