Yes, finally, someone in the surgery has issued the fit note! Some sense at last!

Once upon a time before I was a pensioner (got my pension at the age of 60) I used to have to give in a "sick note" every 6 months. It was a source of everlasting anxiety to me. One time the D.S.S. lost my sick notes. Yes, lost my sick notes. I was on Widowed Mother's Allowance, do not know if it even exists now. My money was stopped. I called them up, had no telephone at home so had to use a public call box. Can you believe it, they claimed that I did not exist? Had no record of me! Turned out eventually that some clerk at the D.S.S. office had stuck my sick notes in a drawer and forgotten about them. Now that's is what they told me. Classic!

Hi lesley
Thank you for taking me down memory lane,........ nothing has changed
apart from Widowed Mother's Allowance/Widowed Parent's Allowance ( WPA) now being replaced by Bereavement Support Payment.

Thanks Gary. It was frightening because I really did feel just like a number. Not even that because they could not find my "number". Thankfully in those days there were lots of good agencies to go to for help. several local C.A.B offices, local law centre, and a few neighbour advice centres, which were simply walk ins. Sadly, all gone now because of funding cuts. Still we survice and thankfully have this wonderful web site.
