UC as Top-Up to Contributions Based ESA (Support Group) was created by charliefoulkes@googlemail.com
Hi All

It says in the Guide that UC can be claimed as a Top Up to Contributions Based ESA (I have been on this 17 years and am quite happy).

My partner walked out 2 weeks ago so I need to claim CTC and Housing Benefit again. :(

Please tell me how to do this, I can't find it in the Guides.

Having to claim UC from scratch and be re-assessed would be my worst nightmare at the moment. Having to do everything myself again as a single parent is ENOUGH for now. I've put off even looking at benefits for a week already, its just scary and intimidating.

Hi Charlie

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

You need to change your username as you are leaving yourself open to scams.
How to change your details: www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help

Your question is outside the remit of the forum.

I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation, who will then be able to take all your circumstances into consideration; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Unfortunately if you are not already in receipt of housing benefit or child tax credits then you will not be able to claim them, you will have to apply for UC to get the housing element and the child element

Hi Charlie

It's not that we do not care, this forum is for members claiming disability benefits, we have guides to help members with these benefits.

We do not give advice on Child Tax Credits or Housing Benefit, if you need advice on these subjects then we would advice you to seek help from your local welfare rights organisation, which is what I did, I also added a link so you could find your local welfare rights organisation. You can also contact Shelter for housing advice; england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice

I also informed you that unless you are in receipt of housing benefit and child tax credits, then you will not be able to make a new claim, you will have to apply for Universal Credit.

Just to say to all the kind mods, please don't let an upset person's bite-back upset you. Sad they didn't think twice before clicking submit.

Thank you denby

We do get used to it, unfortunately we can only answer questions within the remit of the forum, quite often we can try and link questions to other organisations or seek advice from their local welfare rights organisation who can take all their circumstances into consideration.

We cannot give advice as we do not know all the circumstances, we can only give information, which can be hard as we do feel the pain in some of the posts from forum members who are struggling and would love to be more hands on and take control but then that would lead to giving advice which unfortunately we are not allowed to do.
