Hi there,

Does this mean a pensioner who is in receipt of PIP will receive the £400 PLUS the £300 for being a pensioner and also the £150 for being disabled?

To me it is all a bit hazy; and how do they actually arrive at these figures? I am both an old fogey and receive PIP, but why should that entitle me to another £450?

I think more should have been pumped into to help those who really need it such as people who rely on food banks etc and poorer people with families.

Regards,

Phrank.

......just to add to my previous post on this topic, the more I think about it the more I see why Sunak has done this.

In my opinion, he's done this 'across the board' to appease the wealthiest people so they can't kick off about state handouts to the riff raff, as they do.

Why should the likes of Alan Sugar and countless other rich people including Sunak himself, get help to ease their cost of living 'worries'?

Regards,

Phrank.

Housing benefit and council tax benefit payments are means tested, so will someone on those get the £650? I am on contribution ESA.

Hi Witchfinder676

Your question is outside the remit of the forum, but I was sent the following information today which may help answer your question.

DWP issues guidance on cost of living support payments to be delivered through the benefits system.

New guidance follows Chancellor's announcement of a £15bn package of measures to help people through the cost of living crisis.

The DWP has published new guidance on the cost of living support to be delivered through the benefits system that were announced by Rishi Sunak in a statement to the House of Commons yesterday.

Further to the Chancellor's announcement, and guidance issued by the Treasury on the new support package, the DWP guidance confirms the payment arrangements and entitlement conditions in relation to the cost of living support payments to be delivered through the benefits system, in particular in relation to -

~ the £650 lump sum payment for people claiming qualifying low-income benefits - that include universal credit and pension credit - or tax credits;

~ the £150 lump sum payment for people with a disability who are also getting a qualifying disability benefit - such as personal independence payment, disability living allowance or attendance allowance - that will be paid in addition to other cost of living support payments the claimant is entitled to; and

~ the extra £300 that will be paid to people who are entitled to a winter fuel payment for winter 2022 to 2023, that will also be paid in addition to any other cost of living support payments.

The DWP’s cost of living payment guidance is available from gov.uk www.gov.uk/guidance/cost-of-living-payment

Those on Housing Benefit: No.

Those on Council Tax Benefit: It depends on their local council. Mine will, others don't. If you have had a so-called 'discretionary payment' from your local council before you are likely to receive one again.

Hope that helps.

If you get DLA you will get the £150 Disability payment and the £400 that goes to everyone.

If you were on the ‘new’ system, you would be on NewStyle (NS) ESA which would also not qualify, as you need to be in receipt of a means tested benefit to get the £650 one.
