Housing benefit was created by lesley
I know this is beyond the remit of moderators, but I am becoming increasingly anxious so that it is affecting my mental health.
I am on pension credit guarantee. I understand that housing benefit is being abolished. I read that in 2023 housing benefit is going to change and that a housing credit to cover the rent will be included in my pension credit.

I am only anxious that it may not cover the whole of my rent ashousing benefit does now. I am also wondering how, if one's memory is not so good, how will I remember to pay the rent from my pension credit each week. Currently it goes in automatically, or rather the pension service pays it.

Can any forum members of welfare rights workers advise me? If not where should I go to get advice?
I would appreciate any enlightenment on the topic.

Hi Lesley

I am pretty sure that the rent will still be covered as it is now but it may, as you say, be paid to you for you to pass on.

If you are in a Council or Housing Association property then, as a vulnerable person, you can approach them for general advice and, when the time comes, you can request the payments remain paid directly to them as now.

Other places to seek advice might be Age Concern, Citizens Advice Bureau and your local district council. The last may be able to give you other pointers.

Hope this helps

Regards
Pete

Thank you Pete,
Much appreciated. Was delaying putting this on the forum as I initially felt too shy about admitting that I am worried about this change. Then I just thought it's a forum and all of us memebers are reliant on this goverment and this system for financial help one way or another. So great to get a bit of reassurance and know that I am not in this alone.

Hi lesley

There has been some discussion about Housing Benefit being paid with Pension Credit but not Pension Savings Credit.

I have not heard anything for quite a while, most state pension claimants in receipt of housing benefit do not receive Pension Credits.

If you receive B&W news letter then you will get the heads up when there is any news but at this moment in time DWP have more than enough on their plate for any extra work, back logs are getting worse.

Dear Gary,
Thank you very much. Shall be 75 years old this year and the worries never seem to cease especially with what this government gets up to. So to receive your reply is very reassuring. Very helpful.
