Hi, we used to use two old cassette tape recorders and take a 5-pack of C90 cassettes. This allowed for an assessment that was just over 90 mins and a copy for us and one for them. I see no reason why you should not do that.
You can probably borrow the machines ["ghetto blaster" or similar] via social media. Or ask on freecycle and freegle to be given them. If you could get to M1 J30 I would lend out ours.

Thanks I'm really not sure about making recordings myself and the lady I spoke to said I had to burn it to cd. I think we'll both be more anxious if I don't know what I'm doing! Thanks for the kind offer Denby but we're not close.
I think I will call them back and ask if it can be done as a telephone assessment once someone is available to record it. Is this likely to count as us cancelling? We would have been happy to attend the face to face appointment if they were offering audio recording like they are supposed to. How do I get a copy of the recording they make?

I've asked to go on the waiting list for an audition recorded telephone assessment. The lady today contradicted the person I spoke to yesterday and said I could use my mobile to record at the face to face appointment and only needed to provide a recording if not in agreement but i was concerned that I'd get told differently on the day.

Hi NewClaim1
You are absolutely right to be cautious about not believing what you have been told on the phone. You may well get there on the day and the assessor refuses to be recorded - and then where will you be?
If your daughter has a telephone assessment and the assessment services have agreed it will be recorded, you still want to do a covert recording yourself - because several members have found at the last minute the assessor refuses to be recorded or says the equipment did not work properly. This is an awful thing to say, but don't trust them! After the assessment is over you will have to ring to ask for a copy of the recording.

I have just had a video assessment and phoned up to ask for it to be recorded. I was told that a video assessment could not be recorded and I would have to change to a telephone assessment. I declined as I have neurological problems and felt that the assessor needed to see me. Surely this is discrimination as I am being treated differently to others who can have a recording. I did record it on my phone with the camera pointed at me and capturing all audio. Here's hoping I don't have to use it. Good luck with your assessment

So we had the telephone assessment on Tuesday and it was recorded. I also made my own recording. Who do I ask for the cd of the recording and when? Also the appointment ended up being delayed on the day as they called and tried to do it over an hour early when my daughter was still at sixth form. Would I be able to ask for the PA4 report today or as it wasn't done till Tuesday afternoon would I need to wait till tomorrow?
