Hi, my mother-in-law is in her eighties and is currently on DLA & SDA [Severe Disablement Allowance for a long time], we are trying to find out if she would be better off on Pension credit [would she?], her husband gets OAP Pension & a private pension, but my main concern is that if she was better off on Pension credit and applied for it would it then trigger her then having to re-apply for PIP or would her DLA be, ok and untouched? Thank you
Applying for Pension Credit will not affect her DLA, not least because she appears to have been over 65 on 8 April 2013 and is therefore not eligible to claim PIP.
Pension is a means-tested benefit which means that her husband's pensions will be included in the calculation for PC entitlement. I would contact a local Welfare Rights advisor to see if they are eligible.
