Hi
Last month an employee at a major energy firm asked me to read out the long card number and cv security number. I was trying to pay a bill. Three hours later he started spending money. I reported him but the energy firm are being really obstructive.
I have just realised that my benefit payments have not gone in for over a month. What information would he need to change the bank account the benefits would have been paid into - bearing in mind he would have other information like date of birth, address, phone number because he had access to all my account details. Thank you

I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties. Your question is outside the remit of this forum.

You need to get onto the DWP immediately and find out the reason why your benefit has not been paid. It may not be anything to do with your issue with the energy firm.

If you haven't already, you should also check with the bank to see if anyone has tried to change details on your bank account, block the card, and ask for a new one.

Hi Distant123, if you do not get quick success I would try contacting BBC R4 You and Yours or MoneyBox to see if they will take it up. Often has amazing effects as big companies do not want bad publicity. They report and tackle a lot of scams.
Whatever you do you must tell your bank ASAP.

If I may,
I would say contact the bank first and get everything cancelled - then take it up with DWP.

Unfortunately, admittedly 'only' from what I hear on Radio 4, the only place to report is 'Action fraud' which is basically useless. I hope someone may have a more positive experience to report??
