Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi longjohn,
I haven’t heard anything about this.
Perhaps other members may be able to help.
Regards
Pete

Hi longjohn,
I read about this in a Daily Record article published on the web. Basically Jonathan Ashworth, the shadow secretary for works and pensions asked the new secretary for the DWP if he could categorically say that non means tested benefits could become means tested.
The DWP secretary didn't directly answer the question but didn't rule it out - probably because he doesn't know what he's doing - and by the time a few people have read this there will quite possibly be a new DWP secretary such is the appalling turnover in this particular role.
I wouldn't read too much into this as to put this into place would basically be almost impossible without inventing a new benefit which would cost more that it would actually save.
Regards,
Phrank.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for confirming the article.
I think it's just a case of keeping everyone in suspense, the way that politicians answer questions. The new DWP secretary (whatever his name is) won't have a clue about the ins and outs of the benefit system having been in the job for only a few days. Let's see if he lasts longer than what's-her-name, was it Chloe Smith? - I think she lasted about 5 weeks.
What an increasingly grubby situation we are all being dragged through.
Bring on the ballot boxes!

Phrank.

I just posted about this subject before seeing this one. This is extremely worrying. I'm not so sure they wouldn't invent a new benefit regardless of cost, so they can implement this crazy idea... They did just that with Universal Credit. I just get my PIP sorted for a few years, then this crazy story comes along.....I just hope this is nonsense.
