Hi all,

This sort of news travels very quickly, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

I just caught up with the news and some other regional publication has got hold of it.

I'd put good money on this being a breeze in a thimble.

Regards,

Phrank.

I’m extremely worried if the pip ends up means tested. My husband is on a pension and we rely on this money coming in to live… what’s the chances of it happening? Also you might know the answer to my question.. if I take some money equity release out of my home and have an extension built to help us, would they say that we should have kept the money to live from instead of putting it on an extension. Your thoughts would be gratefully received.

Hi Sam

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

I did read about means testing PIP, CA, AA and DLA for children in an article yesterday on Rightsnet (1st November) If you have signed up for B&W free news letter, the back office will let everyone know when there is more news on this subject.

For now do not let yourself worry, we will have to watch and wait to see if there is anything in the forth coming budget.

Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Jonathan Ashworth sought a 'categorical assurance' that means-testing of personal independence payments, carer’s allowance, attendance allowance and disability living allowance for children will be ruled out of the Autumn Statement (due on 17 November 2022). However, declining to give such an assurance, Mr Stride responded -

'The right hon. Gentleman is inviting me, in a whole host of areas, to break with what has been a very long-standing and quite correct convention that Ministers simply do not provide a running commentary about what may or may not be in a major fiscal event. However, he has my personal assurance that when and as it is appropriate to pass him information of that kind, he will be the first to know.'

......The suggestion that the government who are lagging behind so badly in the opinion polls at a point where we will soon be looking to another election would do such a radical thing, beggars belief.

It would be so highly unpopular. Most people have family members or at least know of someone who is in receipt of these benefits. The Tory party are in such a precarious situation they need friends, and friends now or they are not going to stand an earthly chance of performing, let alone winning the next election.

Besides, it would never pass through parliament. You are talking about the most extremely vulnerable people here and there would be an outcry.

I am the worrying kind, and yes this would affect me, but I know this will never happen and if by some chance it did I would wash my hands on this country for good.

Phrank.
