Rehousing (medical need) evidence/PIP review was created by ClaireLO
Hi
I am welfare benefits trained but this is a different and also personal one so would appreciate any input. We are about to move from a house to a HA bungalow. We were granted a band B in December but this was escalated to a band A in mid Feb due to my partner's medical needs and mobility issues. He had a stroke in Nov 21 and has been left with poor mobility, pain, fatigue etc and some cognitive issues. His current PIP award standard DL and enhanced Mob is due review March 24 but am preparing for it. We had strong supporting evidence for our rehousing, including letter from GP confirming stroke and mobility limitations (dated Oct 22) and from the Royal British Legion independent living assessor who visited us at home (dated Nov 22) I am intending to use these as additional evidence for the review as I feel the will be relevant and recent enough even if the review form takes months to arrive as they currently are. Obviously I will be strongly focusing on how conditions have continued to affect him and use the descriptors fully. But also feel this other evidence is important. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi ClaireLO
Only you can decide what additional information you want to send in with the form, and up-to-date- information can be very useful. Read through both letters to ensure they contain no information that can be misinterpreted. For example, you don't want an assessor to think you have moved for your partner's mobility needs, and therefore the move now makes it 'easier' for them to get around and subsequently think they can do so much more! It may sound far-fetched, but as you're trained in welfare benefits, you must have seen that happen to people. If you believe they strengthen your partner's case, then use them - any doubt, don't.

Hi BIS
Thanks for your reply. Exactly my thinking, the overwhelming reason for the move was 4 falls on the stairs and whilst the new property will be safer in that respect, the letters are more descriptive of the limitations imposed by the stroke which remain the same, particularly the pain and fatigue elements. Also unfortunately the stroke has excarbated his sleep apneoa which had been almost controlled prior.Thankfully my original mentor in WBs instilled the descriptors and safely, reliably and so on plus how an activity affects after doing into me so firmly that I always focus on these.

Morning. I applied for HA rehousing a few years ago. I used medical and support letters to help with my housing move. I then used the housing move as proof of limitations when I reapplied for PIP (why I HAD to move). You could also ask for a social services assessment when you do move (or just before) and use this as additional evidence. The HA should really do an assessment anyway to see if you need any adaptations etc… such as grab rails.. All of this ‘proves’ things. Good luck x

Hi Angel thanks for that. I had a carers assessment and my partner had a royal british legion independent living assessment to support the move which I'm going to include in evidence. Also RBL will be sending out an OT to assess for rails etc

Hi ClaireLO
Housing Associations do not usually carry out assessments to see if you require any aids or adaptions, if you are an existing tenant then your HA may have a aids and adaption team but not all HA have an aids and adaption team.
You need to see an occupational therapist, who can carry out an assessment as to what aids and adaptions you may require, such as a wet room, grab rails ....
