PIP telephone assessment

PIP telephone assessment was created by Rosie
This morning I had my PIP review telephone assessment, 17 months after returning the form to the DWP. IAS phoned me twice yesterday to make sure that I would be available at 9 am; they actually didn't phone until 10am today, claiming IT problems. I had tried 3 times to contact their Customer Services Centre to ask about the delay, but got cut off each time after 7 minutes of holding on! By the time "Rachel" actually phoned me I was already quite distressed. She was very apologetic and it was obvious that she had actually read my form and the accompanying letters, which was a very pleasant surprise. Two minutes into the call I was already stating to shake and on the verge of tears; 5 minutes later I was actually sobbing. I don't believe that she got any more information out of me than I had already put on the forms as I had included three full pages of additional notes at the end. so I don't really understand why IAS felt the need to phone me at all. On the plus side, Rachel was a nurse so she understood all the medical abbreviations that I'd used on the form. She appeared to be typing most of the time so who knows what information she was actually putting in the report? My previous experience (since 2010) has been of assumptions made, questions not asked but my "responses" included and a misrepresentation of the responses I actually gave. Yesterday they asked me whether I would be happy to do a survey after the assessment - I declined. I fail to see how I can give any constructive or valuable feedback about the assessment until I know what the report says and what the DWP's reaction is. So now it's another 6-8 weeks before I find out if my scores are good enough to maintain my award at the current level, or if I've done a "Norway at Eurovision" and come away with "nul points!" I'll be 66 in 13 months' time so it'll be interesting to see whether they continue my PIP beyond that date or if it expires just before I become an OAP (always assuming they DO renew it). All the delays and lack of information about rolling over the award since it "expired" over a year ago have had a negative impact on my mental health. I can't say I'm looking forward to the wait for the brown envelope.....

Hi Rosie

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties surrounding your assessment. You can ring the DWP 48 hours after your assessment and ask for a copy of the assessment report. It's called a PA4. This will give you an idea of what your award might be rather than waiting for the Decision Letter.

Presumably I would have to ring the PIP number 0800 121 4433? I will wait until Friday I think. Thank you.

I phoned to request a copy of the report on Friday... an hour and a half of my life I won't get back! Cut off twice after 7 and then 9 minutes and finally got through on the third attempt. They have the report and will send me a copy. I wonder how long it will take to arrive?

Bizarrely, one of the security questions they asked was about the sort code of my bank account, to which I responded "I don't have it to hand"; their automated system STILL told me the date and amount of my next PIP payment! So much for security....

Hi Rosie

It does vary how quickly the report is sent out, but it can take up to ten days.
