PIP AUDIO RECORDING REQUEST was created by stellamellor
  			 				Hello All,

Hope you can help me with this. I received a telephone assessment date from Independent Assessment Services for my PIP claim. Taking the advice from your most helpful booklet, I contacted them and requested that the assessment be recorded. They seemed most reluctant to help me with this, saying no appointments were available and that all the assessor would do would be to record it on their own phone, even if any of them would do this!! However, IAS colleague cancelled my original appointment and put through my request. A week later, I have just received a text saying they have given me a new date and now given me a video assessment instead! I rang to query this, and to confirm that this would be recorded. They said they don't record video assessments - so what was the point of them changing it to a video assessment? I have now put in another request for an AUDIO recording - my anxiety levels are through the roof! My question is - can I insist on an audio recording??

Please, any advise would be most welcome! Many Thanks, Rachel

I'm afraid, no, you cannot insist on a recording!

Claimants do not have a legal right to require the DWP or the Assessment Provider to record an assessment, the existing provisions are an accommodation by the DWP and AP.

There are additional legal requirements in regard to recording video assessments and that is why the service is not provided.

You can record an audio recording for your own use quite legally and there is no requirement for you to inform the assessor. As I said, there are legal issues with recording a video session so I cannot recommend you do but the technology to do this is readily available.
