owing UC back payment was created by Lee
I was asked for 4 months of bank statements and I was under £16000 and didn't think it was a problem . However I was told it cant to be over £6000 and I was asked for statements back to the start

They said was to have notified them if Was over £6000 and I now owe £4599 total in back dating . I was definitely under £6000 when I signed on after having the original covid which broke my health but in lockdown once they paid me it went up . I didn't have online banking at the time but would not have thought it going up was wrong if under £16000
That's ok as if it wasn't supposed to be mine I will pay it back of course . But citizens advice said as it's over £2000 I automatically go to court disabled or not . They told me to get a solicitor .

I am in shock and don't know if anyone has had this happen or if it's automatic to go to court even if willing to pay the sum and a penalty ?

Citizens Advice are usually very good but in this case, they are completely wrong, the DWP may consider fraud if the amount is £20,000 but not £2000!

I would ask for a breakdown of the overpayment, I have done a quick calculation based on your having £10,000 for four years and I can only get about £3000.

For savings and assets in excess of £6000 there is a £1/week deduction for every £250 from your UC or about £4.29/month.
