PIP descriptors was created by Sarah_a82
What happens if I have severe difficulties with an issue but none of the descriptors fit? For example, I can only shower once a week due to extreme fatigue and pain. The amount of exertion needed to shower flares up my symptoms so much that I can't do it more frequently. I explained this on my form and I've had my results back from the PIP assessment and they've scored me 3 points for needing assistance to get out of bath and shower, but I don't think it an accurate description of my issues because I can't shower at all majority of days. Do they just allocate the descriptor which fits best?

Thank you

Hi Sarah_a82

PIP is an imperfect system points-based system, but it would be impossible for them to design questions that would fit every claimant. They can only do it in a generalised way, and so yes, they allocate the descriptor that they think fits the best. Sometimes they agree with a claimant, and sometimes they don't, but they base that decision on the further information you provided. Unless you can't wash yourself - there's no way for you to earn more points.
