I found this (pasted below) in my UC Journal today, I only saw it by mistake as I was writing something in my journal to UC regarding our first payment, I didn't receive any notification otherwise. I have had a WCA which is why I am in the ESA support group do I have no idea why I have received this or what to do next? Also is this going to trigger another WCA?

When you applied for Universal Credit we told you that you did not need to provide a fit note.

We have since found that you have not yet had a Work Capability Assessment outcome for your health condition.

A Work Capability Assessment is something we refer you for when you have an ongoing health condition that restricts your ability to work.

What this means

You must now get a fit note from your GP or healthcare professional, if you still have a health condition or disability which restricts your ability to work.

You are allowed to self-certify for the first 7 days when you tell us you are not fit for work.

The start date of your fit note should be the date you made your Universal Credit claim plus 7 days. For example, 14 March + 7 days would be a fit note start date of 21 March.

Report a fit note in your Universal Credit account.

What happens next

If you do not provide a fit note, or a good reason for failing to do so, we will consider you to be capable for work.

This means you may be asked to look for, and be available for, work and work-related activity.

You must continue to provide a fit note until either:

you tell us your health condition no longer restricts your ability to work
or

you have a health assessment decision
If you need to contact us, send a message using your journal.

Hi palemazy,

Other members of this forum have also received demands for Fit Notes from Work Coaches and other DWP staff.
I have found that the best way to resolve this error is by complaining to the local Jobcentreplus manager. If you are happy to tell me the county that you reside in, I can find the name of the local manager. You can then make a complaint on your UC journal.

Hi David, Thank you for your reply. My partner went in to the job centre to find out what was going on and the person he spoke to said they had no record of the request on their system and it must have been an AI glitch, that the system hadn't caught up and that there was no way this would have come from anyone at our local job centre, however he was not surprised and seemed to think this is something that happens.

On my "To do Journal" it didn't say agent to the right of the message so perhaps it was automated, I think I should put in a complaint although, I'm not sure whether to direct it to the manager of the local job centre as you say (bearing in mind it didn't appear to come from them) or whether I should put in a complaint directly to the DWP. I would be interested to know your thoughts on this and if you have come across this particular type of (AI) scenario before.

Best Regards, Layla

Hi palemazy,

I think you need to have it confirmed in writing that you do not need to supply Fit Notes and also that you have passed a WCA medical assessment and therefore don't need to attend Jobcentre interviews. The number of Work Coaches in the DWP is 25,000 so it would be easy for one to say one thing and another, another. Therefore send a Journal Message to the Work Coach saying that you want confirmation in writing. Some people who don't attend Jobcentre interviews get a sanction which means a drastic cut in Benefit.

Hi David,

I agree, I'm feeling very anxious about this, I have written in my journal to the person that we initially met to provide all our ID too however she hasn't replied and I know she wasn't in the job centre yesterday.

Thank you again, Layla

Hi Layla,

It's not a valid excuse to say she was not at work as I know UC journal entries can be accessed by her colleagues at the Jobcentre.
