ESA to UC migration notice was created by Idonia
Hi, I received my migration notice in the post yesterday (dated 11/11/24) and I have until 12/02/25 to claim. I have a few questions about it all if anyone could help that would be great! I'm currently in receipt of support group ESA, LHA (HB) and PIP at enhanced rates for both components.
1) I don't have a telephone, either a landline or a mobile. What should I do, as I understand that I'd have to give them a phone number when I claim online?
2) I also found out yesterday that at some point between now and the end of January I'll be going into hospital for surgery, which pretty much exactly coincides with my UC migration period. Due to the number of serious medical conditions that I have, I won't be able to manage the UC claiming process and the demands of my surgery and recovery at the same time. Is there anything I could do to mitigate any of this, such as delaying the UC claim for a few months without losing any of my existing benefits?
3) I don't have photo ID at all, and I won't be able to cope with attending a Jobcentre, as due to my medical conditions I'm not able to travel well (I live in a very rural location and my nearest Jobcntre ia a good number of miles away).
Any advice/suggestions/information would be gratefully received.
Many thanks!

Hi David,
Thanks for your response.
Unfortunately, I don't have a telephone so I can't call Citizens Advice, and due to a combination of visual impairment and brain fog, I generally find it very difficult to use online chat systems.
My original question was more specific, in that, firstly, the timing of the migration notice couldn't be worse, as I'm going into hospital for surgery and will be recovering during the migration period. During my recovery I will not be able to sit upright or see clearly (the surgery I'm having is eye surgery). Is there any way to delay or suspend the migration notice without losing my existing benefits or any transitional protection I'd receive under UC?
Secondly, as I mentioned above, I don't own or have access to a telephone, either a landline phone or a mobile. I manage most things online, and if I ever do have to make a phone call, the only phone available to me is an elderly relative's landline. I obviously can't supply their phone number in my UC claim, so what do I do if I can't give a telephone number on the UC claim?
Thirdly, I don't have and have never had (or previously needed) any form of photo ID. Would the Jobcentre be likely to accept a birth certificate and at least two forms of proof of address in lieu of that? In previous cases where I've been asked to provide photo ID, that has been acceptable; but would that be accepted by the Jobcentre?
Many thanks in advance.
Idonia.

Hi Idonia,
I can only sympathise with you in the difficult situation you find yourself.
I would suggest that you use the phone that you have available to contact Citizens Advice Help to Claim for advice. They administer UC Managed Migration on a daily basis so would have experience in this sort of issue.
