ESA to UC commitments was created by Eleanor_Rigby
I did the ESA to UC migration form on Tuesday 28th January and the deadline was 8th February. I had no professional help, receive income based ESA and I’m in the support group. I’m also Autistic, amongst other things.

Unfortunately I do not have photo ID and was told that someone would phone me within 3 days. That’s it. I haven’t been told when or what time but maybe they’ll call tomorrow or Tuesday? I can’t stand this waiting when I don’t know what to expect!

I’ve been told that I must accept my commitments by Tuesday 4th February but it won’t let me do that online for some reason. Is this because I’m waiting to hear from them? What if they don’t call before Tuesday? I’m incredibly stressed out about this, and I’m really going to panic when the phone rings. I never usually answer my phone as I struggle to deal with strangers and unpredictable situations. It’s a nightmare. My blood pressure is elevated too, and I might have to contact my GP to increase my BP meds.

I’d also like to know how long other people have had to wait for their first phone call? What questions will they ask me? I can’t cope with surprises and my mind goes blank if I have to think on my feet. What biographical questions are they likely to ask?

I’ve sent a couple of messages on my journal stating that I have complex needs so I won’t be able to attend the job centre for appointments, and I asked them to please let me know when they were going to call as using the phone stresses me out. Haven’t heard back yet but will they just disregard what I said?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Eleanor_Rigby

For the Biographical Test done over the phone you will be asked 3 questions based on information that the DWP already has, sourced from your previous Benefits claims. The questions can be such as -- what is your middle name--what is the name of the bank that receives your payments --when did you last change address.
I cannot predict the timing of the phone call.

Hope this helps.
David

Thank you. I’ve just had a message in my journal saying they’ll phone me on Thursday 6th February.

No acknowledgment of my messages though, and said I may have to attend a job centre appointment if they need to do further identity checks.

Can they force me to attend even though I have complex needs? I definitely won’t be able to go there.

Hi Eleanor_Rigby

If you fail the Biographical Test which is now unknown as it is a bit of a memory test then you can ask for the Work Coach to do what is called a Biographical Check. This involves verifying who you are with an accredited third party such as your GP.
Here is the DWP guidance .....
A Biographical Check involves the validation of information provided by the
claimant and checked with third parties or organisations such as:
• other government departments
• utility companies
• employers
Universal Credit must get consent from the claimant before contact with
any third party is made.

Let me know how you get on.

They phoned me at the time arranged and the lady was pleasant. I was asked 3 questions based on information I already gave them, it was really simple.

As I was in the support group, I just had to agree to let them know if my situation changes.

I’ll find out in around a month how much money I’ll get, but forgot to ask her if I’d receive transitional payments. I get the severe disability premium so I hope I won’t be worse off.
