UC migration from esa and transitional Protection

Hello hope you can help. I’ve received the UC migration letter and needs to be completed by 27th June.
My question is my rent at the moment is £1150 and on the first June it is the amount I will pay, but my landlord has increased it and that starts in July a few days after I send my UC online by £100. In the rent do I put £1150 which I’ve paid for that month or the increased amount £1250 which will be paid in the few days after in July and for the next year, I have the tenancy agreement updated to the new amount starting from July?

Also I hope this doesn’t alter the transition protection I will receive?
Any advice will be appreciated as I don’t know what to put.

Hi S123

You are unlucky having a rent increase just after you have migrated to UC as it could erode your Transitional Protection. What are the dates of your monthly Assessment Period ?

When you say assessment period is that the last date to apply? Sorry my brain is not functioning today.
My last date to apply to uv is 28/6/25. I was thinking to apply maybe 25/6/25. I have already paid my June rent as it goes out on the 1 st of each month so the next rent after I transfer to UC is going to be the rent increase.
Does that make sense

Hi S123

If your rent increase happens in the 30 days after you claim UC then your Transitional Protection won't be reduced and you will be better off. So try and start your new UC claim to do this.
If the rent increase happens in the second or subsequent assessment periods then your TP will be reduced.

Ok so on the 1st of June I’ll pay the old rent. Then I have to migrate before the 28th June which I was thinking I’ll do around the 25th June so on the 1st of July my rent increase will show my new rent. Which is a week from applying to UC, that should be ok?
Also do I then show my new tenancy to the Dwp ?
Thank you for replying as I’m worried that not only do I have to pay an extra £100 pm rent but if the TP eroded then I’d loose out another sum of money also.
Sorry this is so confusing

Hi S123

Yes what you are thinking is correct. As a change occurring in the first Assessment Period after Managed Migration does not cause a reduction in TP.
So if you migrate on the 25th June then your first UC statement should be in the account on the 20 July for you to check over.

Let me know how you get on.
