Same for us. Do you either hand it back once you have reached the 10K miles and continue to pay your benefit to Motability, or just jack it in altogether...

To catch you out on bad driving skills, you score red marks for poor driving, I gather. And like a game show, which this saga has become, the guilty driver can get taken off the insurance.

Good point ,i think many will look at different options the other thing is dealers are going to lose an enormous amount of sales and aftercare ,one thing they hate is a drop in sales as it effects their standing with the car makers

Hi copshaw

This article from the online car dealer Carwow also raises concerns.

Hello

I have a neurological disability and have been a Motability customer for 35 years this coming September. I was able to extend the lease on my previous 2 cars that I have had over the past 10 years as I had done well under the mileage and both were returned after a year on the extended lease . My current car a VW Taigo I leased in June 2023 its lease expires in June this year.

As my disability means that I don't go out much in the winter I began thinking about my next car in September of last year. On the 2nd of October I visited the Mini dealership on the A3 thats just south of Hindhead and looked at a Mini Countryman. The Motability Specialist was very helpful and arranged for me to look at the car in the dealership's car park as being CV I don't go inside anywhere except for medical appointments, he also wore a mask and I was wearing an FFP3 mask as I haven't had Covid. I liked the Mini and decided to go for that car. Then in November I received an email from the dealership informing me that on the 31st of December the dealership was closing and the nearest Mini Dealerships would be Guildford and Worthing.

In the new year I began going through cars on the Motability search engine. Motability refuse to extend the lease on my Taigo even though I have done under 2000 miles. There is also the issue that the majority of cars on Motability are noe electric. I contacted my housing officer at my housing society and enquired about permission to get an EV charging point installed. I'm in a mid terrace house with a small forecourt and then a hardstand outside of the property. The result of this enquiry is that my housing association is very strict about the charging of EV cars and the company that Motability use to conduct surveys for the installation of EV cars only recommends rubber mats to cover EV cables and not overhead hooks that carry the EV charging cable overhead and then drop the cable down to the car. My housing association regards the rubber mat option to be a trip hazzard so won't grant permission for the installation of an EV charging point..

I have ended up ordering an Omoda 5 car fuel - petrol. It is a compariable size to my Taigo.

I think that it will probably be my last Motability car and that my next car will be a second hand model that I buy.

The difficulties in getting an EV charging point installed, the changes to the scheme of the Government tax on deposits, and the scheme changes by Motability especially
the black box 'spyware' which I understand will eventually be rolled out to all customers puts me off getting another car on Motability after the Omoda car in June.

I am sure that I am not the only scheme customer who feels this way especially regarding the black box 'spyware.' I now feel that just using my Motability car to visit the local country park or nature reserve both of which are over 5 miles away but which I visit because they are accessible and being outside is good for my mental and
physical health, will be frowned on as being indulgent.

This is controversal but its my own view is that Motability Operations who are owned by the 4 large banks, is deliberately bringing these changes in in order to reduce the number of customers so that Motability Operations can be pivoted to being a standard leasing company rather than only for DLA/PIP recipients.

Regards

Haighleagh
