I can see both sides of this.
On the one hand, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear, because what can they find that will do you any harm? If you have no hidden source of income or capital, there's nothing there to stop you getting benefits.
On the other hand, an investigation could be time-consuming and distressing. Benefits are sometimes suspended where fraud is suspected whilst the investigation takes place. Not everyone is robust enough to cope with it.
I hope that everyone here will see the other point of view.

I think also.. not everyone who is in receipt of any kind of benefit is as articulate or as knowledgeable as you guys and that creates a fear in itself when dealing with this 'authority'..there is so much at stake in most peoples lives.
