Dear colleagues,
My thanks for all the helpful advice and signposting to guides etc re: ESA. I recently posted to say despite being medically retired by DWP as unable to undertake any duties full or part-time I was put in the limited capacity to work and wrag. Yesterday I attended the first Pathways interview and the PA was really shocked that I had been put in the group. He asked how many points I scored and I didnt know as it wasn't mentioned in my decision letter. I told him I have appealed and written to my MP.
So today I called Makerfield and eventually a member of the Appeals group called me back. Seems I scored 15 points - good - but have not met the descriptors
on the WRAG. Now very confused! I have limited capacity in both arms, have DLA at higher rate for both mobility and care. The PA said he had never come across someone on higher rate care being placed in the WRAG. My decision is being looked at again, I have been advised to submit all the evidence I can.
Any thoughts or advice please?

What you have been told is indeed confusing.
You get into the Work Related Activity Group by scoring 15 or more points in your ESA medical (WCA). If you have indeed scored 15 points, as you have been told, then you would have put in the WRAG and be in receipt of the appropriate ESA payments.
There is a higher level of ESA, for want of a better description, called the Support Group. You need to meet one or more of the criteria to be eligble for this. The criteria can be found in the Members section in the Understanding ESA document, page 25.
It sounds like there is an expectation that as you are on DLA HRC you should be in the Support Group but have not met the criteria.
If this doesn't make sense based on your conversation with the DWP then you should contact them back, to clarify the situation.
