DLA on reaching 65 years of age was created by delphinium
My husband reaches 65 in April 2012, he is in receipt of top rate mobility and care, what happens to this allowance then, will the amount change?
Thanks

As he currently receives DLA upon reaching 65 he'll continue to receive it post 65.

As he is already in receipt of DLA, my understanding is that he will continue to receive DLA after his 65th birthday.

I am afraid that as long as he receives DLA he is liable to be assessed.

The Government plans to abolish DLA and replace it with a new benefit called Personal
Independence Payment (PIP) if the legislation is passed by Parliament. Originally it was planed that those over 65 would lose their DLA, and have to claim Attendance Allowance which of course has no mobility component.

However, after much lobbying and campaigning, Maria Milller, Minister for Disabled People <sic> and her boss Ian Duncan Smith, Sec of State for Work and Pensions backed down, and if PIP gets on the statute books, those over 65 will continue to receive DLA so long as their.mobility and care needs don't improve.

The plans are to reassess all current recipient of DLA aged 16-64 between 2013 to 2016. This will place a massive burden on DWP Decision Makers as there are over 2 million DLA claimants in this age group.

I doubt if the DWP will have sufficient staff to cope with this, let alone also check claims for over 65's under Right Payment Programme

Hope this of some assurance.
