I am currently receiving IR ESA and am due to be re-assessed. (I've just received another ESA50 to complete!)I am currently also receiving Mortgage interest relief. I only have a few years left on my mortgage and a close friend has offered to pay it off for me. This is a lovely gesture and it seems wonderful to have the prospect of not struggling to keep up the payments, as despite the help I get,it's a lot of money. Will it give me a problem do you think? When I tell the DWP I don't need the help with the mortgage any more, will they ask why? And might I be penalised for accepting this gift? I've tried to find the answer but can't find anything relevant. Can anyone help me with this please?
