I get ESA support group, as i cannot work now due to cancer and side effects from medication.
i was able to take my pension early but it is only £90 a week. I have had to struggle now for the last 4 years and nearly lost my home managing to take out equity to pay off my mortgage.
I also get pip but find it wrong that i paid in all my life and get nothing now when i need it. i have money stopped from my pension as i am over the threshold how do they work that out if ESA support group isn't means tested.
I have no savings, and with all costs now going up worry about paying bills and buying food.
So what about us, we got no uplift, no extra help now and have paid in all my adult life. it seems that we pay for everyone else to get the benifits while missing out ourselves

@Johnny Call you council they will tell you. Or you can apply on line. It should be paid straight to you though. I called my council though as I am in E. I wanted to make them aware that I'm still poorly. Hope you get it sorted!. 🙏 x

@Johnny Lok on your latest letter where they breakdown what you are getting. If it says IR Esa then Yes you will be eligible for the £650 made in two payments. You will get £150 because you receive PIP.

If your in receipt of universal credit you will get the payment on July 14th.. it says from this date as there’s another payment due in the autumn which is the second half. People in receipt of UC and PIP will receive this payment and also the additional £150 but you have to have been claiming one of the benefits as well as that to receive it.

I’m on universal credit and pip at both daily and mobility higher rates, I’ve been in and out of hospital and just heard about extra payments. Can any dear soul explain if am eligible for the extra payments as I’m a bit confused and I also don’t know what other benefits I should be claiming. I also have a full time career that I have to pay from my own money and I’m also in debt to my housing association. As I said I’ve been in hospital with life ending complications. Please help

@Scott hislop Hi, yes you are entitled to the payments if you are in receipt of UC. The first payment of £326 will be paid from today but you may not receive it today as they will be paying out until 31st July 2022. As for the £150 additional payment to PIP claimants I’m not sure when it is due to be paid but someone on here may be able to enlighten us.

@Florinel If you on contribution based you won’t get the £650. You will get the £150 for PIP. Did you receive your £150 from your local council if not ring them. You will get £400 on energy Bill too

My Husband is my carer,(  I'm fast heading for 80 years old,)
He gets £69 a week for HAVING to do do 35 hours looking after me,
by the law of this Government ! How many of them would work
    for £2 an hour ?
WHY doesn't he get any extra ? Because he lives in the same housee as me !
    Utter madness !

I saw a programme on BBC1 which indicated the same as you have said above - that it is only income based and not Contribution based.  Why is it that people on Contribution based always suffer and miss out.  I remember seeing adds for free boilers on TV yet when I enquired I was told I am not eligible due to being on CB. I am in the support group and I recieve extra council tax benefits.  I wish the DWP would be transparent and justify why people on CB are missing out.
I also see there is no mention of PIP in the above list, yet I am sure many on PIP, like me rarely go out and need the heating on more frequently

I was concerned about whether or not I would get the £650, as its hard to understand, and trying to work out exactly which one I’m on. So I messaged Welfare rights explained my worry and asked for their help. A very nice gentleman within 5 minutes of my email, replied back to me and said that as long as you’re ESA benefit is ‘means tested’ and getting over £117 per week that you will get the £650 regardless! Well he should know right, being he advises peoples welfare needs? I’m hoping he’s right, as I’m sure I’m in the contribution based support group. If not I worry about paying for my gas and electric, I have a recently been diagnosed with a chronic lung disease, which means I have to stay warm throughout the colder months.

@Claire If you receive contributions based ESA, that is not classed as means tested, and therefore will not be eligible for the £650.unless you are in receipt of any other means tested benefits

I think to counteract the neglect to disabled they are making a £150 payment to all those on DLA PIP etc and that will be per person, I’m unsure of those on LWRCA UC though.

I’m also on contributions based ESA and feel I miss out on extra help because I’ve paid in full my NI contributions. However, I do receive council tax rebate due to my very low income, which is a means tested benefit. Surely this should mean I qualify for the £650 extra help. But I don’t think I do. Does anyone know any different?

Are people on the old style esa support getting it and I read that it includes a income related part , unlike the new esa ?
