PIP: sending fresh evidence before an assesment

It’s been ten months since I made my telephone call to DWP to claim PIP. I’m still waiting for an assessment. Since then I’ve had to go into hospital again and my medications have been changed. I have a consultant’s letter (patient’s copy) which has details of my latest medical treatments and the changes to my medication.

I’d like to send a copy of this to both Atos and DWP, as it does show a further deterioration in my condition. However, I’ve read that it’s taking an average of twelve months for each claim to be processed; from the start of the claim to the date of the final decision. I’m worried that if I start sending fresh evidence at this late stage of the game, the additional paperwork might slow up an already costive process.

I’m contemplating not sending it, and then just handing over the new evidence at the assessment.

Any thoughts?

The delays are in picking up a claimants file from the outstanding pile, rather than in the actual assessment of the claim, so adding more information should not create any further delay and may actually speed it if it prompts them to consider whether a F2F is actually required.

We recommend sending a copy to the Assessment Provider and the DWP for the attention of the Decision Maker plus taking a copy to the F2F if you have one.

Remember that any new information must be related to the PIP descriptors for it to carry the maximum weight.

Thanks, Gordon.

That's just the kind of information I needed. I hadn’t considered that it might actually expedite my claim.

I’ll send those copies to DWP and Atos first thing tomorrow.
