Hi
My ESA award ends in June 2015 but I was hoping I would be one of those who got a two year reprieve due to the backlogs.
Then, the horrible news came that Maximus are taking over the contract in March 2015.
I want to be left alone because this process worsens my mental health and takes me ages to get over, and the thought of being one of the first to be assessed by maximus scares me half to death.

I think it unlikely that you will be one of the first to be assessed by Maximus, although it may actually be to claimants advantage to be assessed early as there will likely be considerable scrutiny of ESA85s and ESA85As by Maximus and the DWP when they initially take over.
There are still considerable delays in the system, there are at least 600,000 outstanding assessments at the moment, which is why they are saying it could take 18 months to catch up.
We do know that assessments are being done in date order, first in first out, so even if you received a new ESA50 in March or April of next year, it will be likely be many months before you are actually assessed, which hopefully will allow the system to have stabilised by the time you are seen.
I would try not worry too much about the situation, just prepare for the assessment as you can.
