Do I appeal ? PIP ? Help was created by John SW
Hi All
I must first say thank you for an amazing resource - well worth the subscription.
I worked for the ambulance service and sustained a back injury on a 999 call a couple of years ago. Anyway to cut a 2 year story short I had annular tear and now bulge touching central nerve which causes severe back and bilateral leg pain, and causes major issues on a day to day basis including double incontinence. I applied for PIP back in October last year, and to be fair had the face -to face assessment a couple of weeks ago and the letter this morning, awarding me 8 points for daily living, and 10 points for mobility, saying i could walk 20-50 meters (I wish). I had provided 158 pages of medical evidence from GP, spinal specialists (saying they could not operate or increase my function and pain relief was only option) and am under two minds on whether to appeal or not.
Any advice or thoughts from a fresh perspective would be most gratefully appreciated.
Many thanks
John

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I am afraid we cannot offer any advice as to whether you should appeal or not, only you can make this decision.
You have one month from the date of the Decision to request a Mandatory Reconsideration so you have some time to look at your options.
Whether you decide to go ahead or not, you might want to request the assessment report, contact the DWP and they should be able to send it to you, this will give you a better understanding of how the Decision Maker made the award, it will also let you see where your evidence was considered to be weak.
If you want to request an MR then you might want to have a look at our MR & PIP Appeal guide.

Thanks for your reply - I fully understand it is my descision on which way I go, I was jus wondering in the cold light of day what other opinions where - not looking at passing the buck.
I have asked for a copy of the report. It was quite amazing, the first person i called demanded to know why i wanted a copy and want i happy i had got Pip at the level I had and to go away and read the letter again. I thought Id just accept that and call again. The second person I spoke to couldn't have been more helpful - what a shame the is no consistency !
Lets see what the assessment report provides
Best wishes
