can any one help me with this. whilst visiting the housing benefit department of my local council the young man that was help me noticed that i was on ESA he ask if i knew that my benefit was soon to change to universal credit. aparently they combine housing benefit and your ESA or JSA as 1 monthly payment. Does anyone know how this actually works, and whether the amount paid is the same as i am currently receiving or can i expect a reduction?
thank you Cate

The young man was being pre-emptive at the very least, at the moment nobody who is unable to work due to ill health or disability is able to claim Universal Credit, even when claimants are able to be processed it will be for new claims only, it is likely that new legislation will need to be enacted to allow any bulk transfer of existing ESA claimants.
My best estimate is that it could be at least a year before any transfer night start so I would not worry about it a the moment, we will have a better idea of what might happen once the election is done and dusted.
