Documents to request for ESA reassessment

I was awarded CB support group ESA in Oct 2013 without a medical as a transferfrom IB. I rang up and was told that I would be reassessed in 2 years.I did not request my ESA 85A form at that time.
I decided to ring DWP last week to enquire about my reassesment date, hoping to find out about any deferral of the process because of the backlog However, I was told that I would be reassessed on the 23rd July.
I want to be as prepared as possible as the summer is a very difficult time to be requesting supporting letters Also, I am going away in early August for 10 days then again in mid-September for a week. I would like to request any forms/documents that the DWP hold about the decision made 2 years ago as I think that it could be helpful. Is it to late to request these? If it is not to late what should I ask for apart from the ESA 85A form? I don't want to get anyone's back up though.
My award is on the basis of bipolar disorder.
Thanks in advance

Hi D,

Going on that information, and I am sure that the ESA Call Responder would have said that the July date may be subject to change dependent on the back log situation at that time, your ESA reassessment should start around circa July.

It would be best to start preparing now with regards to obtaining current evidence and preparing an updated ESA50 which could be done by :

Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire

Whilst referring to our most current : ESA Claims Guides

Even if your ESA50 does not arrive in July, you can simply save the PDF ESA50 and update it when needed.

If you don't receive the ESA50 when expected, you could give it a week or so then call ESA.

If they were to defer your re-assessment, this would not occur until the computer systems indicated that it was time for The DWP to re-refer you to Maximus, who would then start the re-assessment process by posting you an ESA50.

It would help if you could obtain information regarding how and why you were placed into The SG in Oct 2013.

As your ESA Claim is still active they should have the documentation used in coming to that decision.

See : This Post.

It will be The DWP Data Controller that deals with your SAR, and judging from this and other forums many, many claimants are regularly issuing SARs to The DWP, so I wouldn't worry ! :)

As the assessing HP at your re-assessment (whenever it occurs) may not have access to your historical evidence, you should treat any re-assessment as if it was your first assessment.

Do not even assume that they will be aware that you are in The SG and why you were placed into The SG.

Therefore, you should inform them of this !!

It would also be important that you make comment that your health conditions have not improved since the time of your previous assessment due to treatments or new medications.

Nor have your resulting limitations diminished to such an extent that you no longer qualify for The SG, and that you have not been able to better cope with, or adapt to said limitations since your last SG Award.

All of the above being the case of course !

By the way, you are supposed to inform ESA if you are going to be away from home.

This would be particularly important if you were expecting an ESA50, or the possibility of a face to face once the ESA50 had been returned.

Thanks so much for your detailed answer. The DWP worker I telephoned didn't say that my July date of reassessment might be defered due to backlog. Am I right in understanding from your reply that the date might be deferred but I won't be able to find that out until July? I don't want to request supporting letters too early as they might appear out of date if the reassessment is deferred.
In the meantime I will request the documents from DWP as you have explained and prepare my answers to the ESA

Hi D,

Yes, as the deferrals are done electronically by a computer programme, a deferral would not occur until the day that your reassessment was flagged up on The DWP systems.

Keep us updated ! :)

Hi, I've been filing out the SAR form. In part C (Location of Records) it says "please list the names and addresses of DWP offices which may have your records". I have found 6 different DWP offices since 2013. Do I list them all? The 2 most recent ones are, for ESA : Wolverhampton BC and for DLA : Blackpool Benefits Centre.
Also it says " please send or take this form to your nearest DWP Office". Where is the best place to send it? Derby is not far away but the postal address for Derby Benefit Centre is Wolverhampton...

Thanks

Hi D,

I would list all DWP Offices that you are aware of then write "all other applicable DWP Benefit Offices".

Nearly all DWP Benefits Office/Centre addresses now go via The Wolverhampton Mail Distribution Site.

It is then opened sorted and sent electronically to your applicable local office.

I would post it to the address of The Benefits Office/Centre (BDC) on your most recent ESA letter.

FAO : The Data Protection Controller.

As any historical documents will now have been archived/stored securely The DWP Data Controller for your area/postcode should be able to access all/any of your available records that your request.
