I've been a carer for the last 15 years for both my daughters experiencing mental health issues. I did not apply for Carer's Allowance because I thought as they are my daughters, I may not have been eligible. In recent years, I have experienced financial hardship, so I now want to see if I can get backdated Carer's Allowance and Carer's Credits. Can I do this? If so, how far could they backdate my claim?

Thank you.
You can only claim CA for one of your daughters and they must be receiving DLA Care at the Medium or higher rate or have a PIP Daily Living award.
I am afraid that the most that you can backdate a claim for Carers Allowance is 3 months, with the one exception of caree being receipt of a new qualifying benefit in which case the claim can be backdated to when the award was made providing that the CA claim is made within one month.
