PIP Question 10: Managing Money, etc. was created by MariW

So many PIP questions are applicable to both physical and mental health limitations that I’m still not sure what Question 10 is all about despite having ploughed through the B&W literature.

Clearly, Q10 refers to claimants that have learning difficulties, cognitive impairment, or behavioural problems that might result in mishandling of money, inability to budget, or an inclination to make poor or financial decisions. However, does Q10 also refer to claimants that cannot read financial data due to visual problems, are unable to physically handle currency, and/or mobilise well enough to access banks and sources of financial advice?

Whilst the Activity does not specifically exclude the physical problems that a claimant might have managing money, I think it unlikely that you would score points for problems in this area.

The activity is called "Making Decision About Money", I think you should assume that the emphasis is on "Decision", also the activity repeatedly uses the word "budgeting" in defining how claimants can score points, whilst this may involve elements of physical activity, for example selecting the correct change, I think the assessor and Decision Maker will see this as primarily being about calculating the change to give.

That does not mean that you cannot argue physical problems prevent you from carrying out the activities defined for simple versus complex budgeting decision, but I would certainly not rely on your scoring points.
