just been transferred from dla to pip and awarded enhanced rate of mobility and standard rate of care for 3 years after a medical assessment.. I have now just received a letter saying I need to attend a medical assessment for esa. I sent the form back to them in January 2014 and been waiting all this time. MY question is will the decision about pip have any bearing on my esa decision, I know that they are 2 separate benefits but they say I was awarded enhanced rate of mobility because I cant walk more than 20 metres which is also a descriptor for the support group of esa. I was wandering if to take a copy of the pip medical report as medical evidence to the esa medical. I had my pip medical on the 12/6/15 and my esa assessment will be on the 24/7/15 but this could be changed yet as I have asked for this to be recorded

Hi tango,

Congratulations on your PIP award! You can certainly use your PIP award as evidence of the fact that your mobility is poor. However, don't forget that the ESA descriptor is more difficult to satisfy as it deals with 'mobility' rather than 'walking'. The Decision Maker is allowed to assess you as if you used a self-propelled wheelchair - even if you do not have one and have never been advised to use one. If your condition makes it difficult/impossible to do this you need to make this clear to the ESA assessor. This is covered in our ESA guides.

ESA claims and appeals

In addition, it seems that it is 18 months since you filled in an ESA50, you might find the information in this link helpful

Invited to a face to face assessment but no ESA50 sent
