Back payment? was created by mysti1990
I've been receiving the lower rate care component of DLA for a few years but recently applied for PIP because my health has deteriorated. I'm now awaiting my face-to-face assessment. If I'm granted PIP will it be backdated to the date I made the phone call to start my claim or does this only happen for claimants who weren't previously receiving DLA? Thank you.

It will be backdated.
Sorry I was misinformed. It used to be backdated but obviously this government is determined to save every penny of benefit it can regardless of right or wrong.

Payments are no longer backdated? Is that for all applications for PIP?

For brand new applications, payment will be backdated to the initial phone call. For people currently on DLA, that will continue to be paid until 4 weeks after the PIP decision, whatever that is, and PIP will start then if awarded.
