hi I received a new esa form last week after 3 years in support group. I have to send it back for 7th jan which is a nightmare as I need to get supporting letters and complete the form before xmas or it wont arrive in time. if my condition is the same as last time can I copy my last form? Also my gp has left the surgery and I don't know any other doctors there, would a gp who doesn't know me help with a supporting letter? Also I have a copy of my last medical report from the dwp. Even though its 3 years old it states there would be substantial risk is found capable of work or work related activity. I know this is seen as a new claim but would this info help if I sent it. Thanks.

Hi lg,

Yes, you can use the info from your previous form but you will need to show that it is still relevant and that you have not adapted or learned to manage your problem/s. This is particularly important if you are trying to meet the Exceptional Circumstances criteria as the onus is 100% on the claimant to prove their case.

Whether or not your GP will write a letter of support probably depends more on Practice policy than anything else, you can only ask.

Even though this is not your first application, don't forget to make full use of our ESA guide and ensure that you understand the significance of any changes to descriptors since your last application.
