DLA form completing for someone else was created by stefaniel2001
Hi,

We have only just discovered that my mother in law is only receiving the mobility element of DLA, she was given a lifetime award many years ago, but has always managed her own affairs until this summer when everything seemed to fall apart.

We now have a DLA application form and are working through each section in turn. Is it correct that we don't need to complete the 'getting around outdoors' section as she already has the mobility element, or should we fill this in anyway just to be safe?

Also as she will be able to physically sign the form once completed, should we fill it in in the First person, as though she has written it all, or compete it in the Third person?

Many thanks
Stefanie

Hi Steffi and welcome to the forum. On the assumption that you are also new to the site this link should help you find your way around.

How old is your mother-in-law? Do you live in England/Scotland/Wales?

If your MIL was under the age of 65 on 8th April 2013 any change of circumstances will result in being 'invited' to claim PIP instead of DLA. The claimant has no choice in this, the DLA would be stopped even if the PIP claim was not made.

The PIP guides are linked below. If this does not apply to your situation please reply to this message and we will do our best to help :)

"Hi, she's 77 so has been issued with a DLA form - thanks :)

PS have been here on and off as am (sadly) on DLA myself :(

Thank you"

Thanks Steffi,

DWP treat DLA as a single benefit, even though it has 2 elements. The claim form needs to be filled in as if this were a new claim and DWP know nothing about your MIL. Don't forget to make good use of our guides :)
