Please can I ask about mentioning an upper tribunal decision related to taking nutrition, mentioned in the guides. It is the one about needing prompting if the general choices taken are not nutritious, such as soup and coffee. Do I just refer to it with the date and tribunal number in brackets, the way it is done in the PIP guide? Or do i need to give any further info. When I click on the link it says the info is read-only.

Also, I have had a bit of support from family in compiling my submission. How can I mention this? I have just said due to the nature of my condition I have had some support in compiling it. Is this Ok or would it be seen badly that someone else has helped and it's not my own words etc? Also I heard about someone having a letter returned from the tribunals because it needed there own signature or approval. Do I need to do that sort of thing?

Many thanks.

There's no harm in you referring to a UTT Decision but make sure you fully understand what the Decision says, they are rarely as black and white as they appear, you will also have to show why the Decision is relevant to your circumstances.

My old friend is going to come with me, so I am going to ask to change it to going to the appeal, rather than in paper. Feeling a bit more relieved now i don't just have to do the written side and rely on that as much.

A mental health issue does not mean that you cannot have problems with these activities but it may be more difficult to show.

I have an article about how cognitive function is affected by my diagnosis, could I include this with my appeal submission?

Thank you Gordon.

In your experience of appeals, have the tribunal panel usually got an awareness of the condition of the applicant by reading the notes and consultants letters etc before the tribunal? Or do you have to go in and explain your conditions. Thanks

I would expect, in the majority of cases, that they will have an understanding of the claimants conditions, one of the panel members will be a doctor, however, two claimants with the same conditions could be affected in very different ways.

They will have some understanding of how the conditions specifically affect you from your original form and the information you have supplied to the appeal, but much of their questioning will be concerned with you explaining how your conditions affect your ability to complete the PIP activities.
