Not sure if you cover this subject but can a carer who looks after their mother full time still be forced into job centre for work interview as they want him to get a part time job as well.He has told them his care is full time and he has no spare time as they call it but they are insistent if he does not attend it will effect his benefit. He suggested a telephone interview and they said no.They keep insisting he can do a job as well as looking after his mother which is crazy because of the problems she has.

Requests for Carers to attend Work Focussed Interviews are usually only made when the claimant or their partner are receiving and Income Related benefit such as Income Support, ESA(IR) or JSA(IR).

Is the person receiving Carers Allowance?

These WFIs are simply a tick box exercise unless the person has other responsibilities, for example they are claiming JSA, the advisor cannot require them to seek any work and cannot penalise them for not doing so.

They can however, sanction their benefits if they do not attend.

If they look after the mother full time and a replacement carer is required while they attend at the JC+ then this should be a claimable expense.
