Hi, My wife has just received a letter from HM Government - Titled - Please change your payment account. She currently uses a post office account. She has epilepsy, poor co-ordination and memory problems. The letter implies that she has to change to a bank account. This would be a problem for her. Does she have to change?
Thank you.

I done some quick searches and apparently a current account has been required for benefit payments since 2010, this does not mean that she has to use a bank, the Post Office apparently have a number of account options available.

It appears that the traditional Post Office account is very expensive for the DWP to transfer payments to and it won't work with Universal Credit.

Hi Gordon, thank you for the reply. Would she be perfectly within her rights to refuse to change. What if anything can they do?

They could suspend payment of her benefits if they are unable to make a transfer to the account. it's really not a battle worth fighting!
