Housing Benefit affected by ESA plus PIP?

I have a question regarding Housing benefit. If you are in receipt of ESA Support Group award, and housing benefit at the maximum amount, would gaining an additional PIP award affect housing benefit entitlement? If so at what level of monthly income would Housing Benefit be reduced?

Many thanks for replies.

Hi Lucky,

I'm afraid we do not deal with Housing Benefit, things change from one council to another. All you can do is ask!

Pip is a disregarded income for housing benefit entitlement purposes

Ok thank you. Do you know also what is housing benefit disability premium? It said on the form that is a passport benefit if you are awarded PIP.

Housing Benefit is calculated by looking at the amount of benefit a claimant should be entitled to, one of the ways that this amount can be increased is through the payment of Premiums, there are a number of these that are related to DLA and PIP, being in receipt of a Care or Daily Living award enables the Disability Premium, receiving DLA MRC or PIP Daily living can enable the Severe Disability Premium (there are other criteria that also need to be met), receiving HRC or Enhanced Daily Living enables the Enhanced Disability Premium.

It's important to understand that Housing Benefit is calculated based on a series of levels rather then being directly related to the amount of income you are expected to have, so being eligible for some or all of the Premiums will not necessarily result in more HB being paid.

In my housing benefit letter it states disability premium of two amounts one of approx £32.00 and another of £61 because I get severe disability premium . If your only income is ESA and Pip it won't make much difference as you should be entitled to full HB. If you have other income these premiums allow you to keep more of your money if you had to pay some rent .
