ESA medical assessment postponed/cancelled was created by Molly
So today I got a letter through my door asking me to attend the ESA medical assessment. Safe to say I'm freaking out and have been dreading this moment since I first made the claim.
I have bipolar type 2 and traits of borderline personality disorder. I've been prescribed an anti psychotic. I can't use public transport or go out alone. Most of the time I can't even go out full stop. I experience some psychotic symptoms and recently self harmed. I sent three sets of psychiatrists notes in with my medical form. I feel physically sick at the thought of being sat infront of a stranger being quizzed about my mental health. The claim has made my symptoms worsen since the get go. I've done all I can but don't see myself being treated fairly and the way I deserve. Seems like even severe mental health issues are overlooked by these people from what I've read on line. Would be grateful for some advice and for others to share their experiences with the face to face assessment on mental health grounds.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
I am sorry that you are finding this all so distressing
Our ESA guide will explain what to expect at the face2face assessment, it isn't a 'medical' in any accepted sense of the word and the questions are unlikely to relate directly to the questions on the ESA50 form.
ESA claims and appeals
Some people do, sadly, have bad experiences at these assessments and these are the people we hear from. However, the majority of assessors do their jobs fairly and with a degree of compassion - but that kind of thing is not 'news' and is not talked about so much.
Members are, of course, free to post and tell you of their own experiences.
You might want to favourite/bookmark this on your web browser now so that you can find them easily in future. That will allow you to return and tell us how you get on, or ask further questions, without having to start a new topic each time. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one topic - and I hope you will find it useful too

Could really do with some reassurance/advice. I got the letter giving me my appointment for my ESA medical over a month ago. With nine days before my appointment I received a letter saying it had been postponed and cancelled. They mentioned that they would be back into contact with a new appointment time. But also that 'if I would like more information about why I no longer need the assessment to contact jobcentre plus' This is having a massive negative impact on my mental health. I have been diagnosed with bipolar and borderline personality disorder. I haven't asked for a home appointment or for the assessment to be recorded so I have no idea why it's been cancelled especially seeing as it wasn't a last minute cancellation.
This claim has been making me ill since the day I made it. I thought I was going to be able to get the assessment over with but no..
Honestly this is doing my head in at this point and I'm so angry especially after I detailed in my ESA50 form that change always badly affects my mental health

Hi Molly,
I have merged your query with the previous topic related to your ESA as it helps us enormously if everything relating to the same claim is kept in one place. You will find it easily in future if you bookmark/favourite it on your web browser now.
I'm afraid it is very common for assessments to be cancelled. There are lots of reasons why this might be and none of them will be related directly to you or your claim. You might find this helpful, it can be found in the 'spotlights' section of the forum at the top of the first page.
