ATOS Medical Assessment - anorexia? was created by Tcake
Hi,
I have my medical assessment tomorrow with relation to my PIP application and am dreading it! I have worried all week and I feel like I am going crazy today!
Anyway, I suffer from anorexia and I am at the lowest weight I have ever been. So I was wondering what physical tests the assessor might carry out and, in particular, would they check my weight?
I also suffer from osteoporosis and osteomalacia which causes severe pain in my bones and joints so I constantly feel weak and cannot walk further that 10 metres without being out of breath, even with my walking cane. I have no muscles as they have wasted away so dread them asking me to carry out any difficult tasks.
Any advice would be welcomed, particularly from those who suffer from anorexia and have been or are in the process of applying for PIP. Thank you.

Hi TCake,
There will be very little in the way of physical examination or tests in the face2face assessment. It is not a 'medical' in any accepted sense of the word.
Our ESA guide explains what to expect.

Hi,
I had my pip medical this morning and thankfully it wasn't as bad as I expected. I was seen by a physiotherapist and she just asked me questions based on the PIP assessment criteria.
At the end of her questioning she said 'I usually carry out a physical examination but I am not going to carry this out because it wouldn't be of any benefit to you and we have all the evidence we need to assess you' So what do you think she meant? She did see me struggle to walk in and I obviously talked about my mobility issues during our q&a session, so do you think she it went in my favour or not?
My assessment lasted aprox 35 minutes and the nurse seemed nice but I not wanting to get my hopes up too much as you never know what is going on behind those smiles!

I would take it at face value and nothing more.
