PIP and power chair was created by caroline webb
Hi
My husband is now waiting for his form to complete as he will have to transfer from DLA to PIP.
He uses a powerchair for inside the home, a scooter for outside and a larger scooter for distance, all referred from the doctors.
Having looked at the discriptors if he uses his powerchair inside instead of his wheelchair which he is unable to mobilise himself will he be penalised for this. The powerchair gets him around the home he can stand with help to be seated back in his powerchair.
It seems that you have to be careful how you word things, help appreciated please.

Hi caroline,

The important thing will be to demonstrate that your husband uses the powerchair out of necessity, rather than choice. Yes, I know, who would choose to be limited by a powerchair if they did not need to, but I guess it might male things easier in some situations.

Thanks, he also has a wheelchair which I push but I am struggling with it due to my own problems. I wonder if it best he uses the wheelchair, this is so stressful.

It really does not matter, PIP considers his ability to stand and walk, so you need to show that he cannot does this reliably on the majority of days.
