New to PIP - Mobility Enhanced Denied; appeal (?)

Hi,

I've just received my award letter from DWP today. I'm currently a cancer patient undergoing treatment and had applied on the day my chemotherapy started which was on May 9th (2016)

I used the guide on here to fill out the form (which was very helpful). They've awarded me the enhanced rate of PIP for my daily living needs but on awarded the standard rate for my mobility needs.

I scored 8 points for moving around and zero points for 'planning and following a journey'. they state I can plan and follow a route of a journey unaided. I clearly stated on the application form that I don't need help to plan a route that I know well. BUT I do need help (ticking 'yes') for help from another person to get to a location that is unfamiliar to me. I then elaborated by explaining that 'I don't feel comfortable carrying out unfamiliar journeys, I cannot reliably follow a route without support, it would cause anxiety if there a delays in getting home as I'm on medication that needs to be taken at specific times. Not being able to reliably follow an unfamiliar route I have to use taxis or friends & family.'

I appears that this information was overlooked, hence the zero score(?). I don't know/ I'm considering whether its worth appealing.

Thanks

If the reasons you hoped to score points for the Going Out activity are anxiety only then you will need to show that you suffer from "overwhelming psychological distress", this may be the case but the words you have used in your post do not suggest this.

Also, I think that there will be an expectation that if you suffered in this way then there would be medical evidence to support this, can you provide this?

Thanks Gordon,

that's understandable. I've spoken to the DWP today and they've explained that I didn't provide proof of my anxiety. I'll be seeing my Dr in a week or so regarding this with a referral to MIND charity so hopefully including this to them with a letter will be sufficient enough

Replied by Robin_S on topic PIP Award Ended after telephone assesment
I have been awarded PIP since 2016. Was reassessed in person in 2018 as was re-awarded but downgraded on mobility. In 2020 was sent a new form, with COVID it was delayed being reviewed several times and the current award extended twice. I was given a telephone assessment at the beginning of this year which was rearranged and delayed after requesting for it to be recorded. I finally had it earlier this month and have since been denied PIP altogether. Scored zero for everything. I did and have always used the guide from this site. I'm about to fill in a CRMR1A form, reading the decision a lot of the reasons is - 'no evidence' or where I said I have difficulties, they've decided that I can do things unaided or I do not need to.
Most telling is their opening paragraph; ''I looked at the information you provided, the medical evidence provided and the health professional consultation report and changed the descriptors previously chosen based on the medical evidence received. I ended your PIP award from today as you no longer meet the conditions for PIP and I would not have expected you to know from the information provided that your PIP would change''
Did they move the scoring criteria, after my form arrived in order to not have to score me at all?

Hi Robin_S

I'm sorry this has happened in this abrupt way. I can't tell you why the decision-maker has acted in the way that they have, but sometimes they do choose other descriptors from the ones a claimant may have chosen or even sometimes the Health Professional.

Have you got a copy of your PA4 (the assessment report) - so you can see what the health professional said in detail and what you are fighting?

Hi,
I haven't got a copy of the PA4

I was just about to fill out the CRMR1A form

It asks what part of the decision do I disagree with and why and it threw me a bit given what the assessor had written. I guess I disagree with everything, don't know how specific I need to be with this

Thanks
