The format of the assessment will be very similar, whether it is carried out in your home or at an assessment centre. Our PIP guide explains what to expect.
PIP help for claimants
On the day the assessor might arrive on time, early, late - or not at all (I'm afraid a lot of appointments are cancelled with little/no notice).
You can decide which room you wish to be used. The assessor is like any other visitor to your home and does not have to right to look at any other rooms (in our experience, they do not ask to do so). It is also up to your son who he wants to have with him.
It seems that many of these visits are carried out in a professional manner. However, it is human nature to make more noise when something goes wrong, which is why we tend to hear so many of the horror stories!
May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments relating to your son's PIP claim I assume it is for PIP as he is 16?). It helps us enormously when everything about the same claim is kept in one topic - and I hope you will find it useful too
