mandatory reconsideration was created by saud
my mum had a award of hrc/lrm. and her mobility has become much worse that now she can only walk no more then 10 meters

i applied to get hrm , we had a home assessment which was rushed , where the lady only asked us what has changed since her last application, i told her my mum has a care package from the social services to give her a bath twice a week as she is unable to bath herself. also i included a letter from council physiotherapist clearly stating that she can only walk 10 meters and no more

today we got the award and they have only given her standard rate care which i find appealing as my mother is housebound

i have called her doctor and psychiatrist for letters and social services to send as part of her mandatory reconsideration

can anyone give me some advise please

Hi Saud,

I am sorry that your mother did not get the award she deserves :(

I assume you are talking about PIP?

The MR process is explained in the PIP guide

PIP help for claimants

It is often helpful to get a copy of the assessor's report. You can do this by phoning the DWP and asking for it. However, do not delay requesting the MR beyond 1 month, even if this report has not arrived. You do not need to go into great detail initially when requesting the reconsideration.

May I suggest that you bookmark/faovurite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further questions or comments as the process continues. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same is kept in one topic - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

i have just began writing up for my mums M/R manageg to write up a more details on her problems and also mentioned that the assessment was rushed (15-20)mins and she came 30 mins early.

now just waiting for decision letter from dwp and getting a few letters together from psychiatrist and social care services

will update and let you know how things get along

i have also asked for the HP report , and copy of her claim form, as i have misplaced hers somewhere

i have just managed to write a 13 page document which includes MR, a few pages about my mums illness and also a write up on the case manger and HP conclusions. where i have outlined where it would have been appropriate on her asking questions then assuming answers. this was a very rushed consultaion and was over in under 20 mins

would there be anyone to help go through my writings ?

I'm sorry but this is not a service that we can provide on the forum.

One comment, DLA Higher Rate Care is awarded because the claimant has shown that they have care needs both day and night, Medium Rate Care is where the claimant has care needs day or night but not both. So have you emphasised in your letter.

Also, you posted earlier that you asked the DWP to look at her Mobility award. Lower Rate Mobility is awarded because the claimant has cognitive or mental health issues that prevent them from going out or follow a route. Higher Rate Mobility is awarded because the claimant is unable to walk or is considered as being virtually unable to walk. The typical distance used is 50m but it is not just a question of the distance, their speed of walking, the time it takes and their manner of walking also have to be considered.
