Permitted work during appeal wait

I've checked through the appeal FAQ and searched the forum but can't seem to find an answer to this.
Is it permissable to work limited hours while in receipt of esa at appeal rate? I know this seems odd but before I failed my medical I was working a few hours a week. I really want to build on this so I can eventually work full time and not need benefits.
Doing nothing for months while I await my appeal would be counter productive but the hours the job centre want me to work are too many at this stage.
Would be grateful for any insight.

There's nothing that prevents you doing PW during an appeal, whether it's a god idea or not is another matter. Mrs H has previously posted links to our PW guide,
