Holiday Issue ? was created by Jayne11
Hello,
My husband will be asked at some point to claim PIP from an indefinite DLA award and I wondered how this could affect our claim if we get notification just prior to or while we're away on holiday? I have close family who live abroad and 3 weeks will be the maximum duration.

Hi Jayne and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
When the 'invitation' arrives you will have 4 weeks to initiate the claim. If this does not happen, your DLA will be suspended and you will get another letter giving you a further 4 weeks, if the claim is initiated during this time the DLA will be reinstated, otherwise the claim will be closed.
Claimants are supposed to notify the DWP before going abroad anyway

Have a look at our PIP guide to understand the process and the descriptors you will be assessed against

Thank you for your reply
Oh dear, I was under the impression that you only had to notify if away for 4 weeks or more, which I can understand ..
We generally have a holiday once a year, is this common practice and acceptable under the rules of DLA and ESA ? basically have we anything to worry about?

There are two issues, technically for ESA you are supposed to notify them if you are away from your usual place of residence, PIP is less defined but you should probable notify them if you are leaving the country, don't forget to tell them when you get back as well.
The second one issue is to do with what can happen while your away, as Mrs H has posted you could miss the window to initiate a PIP claim and have your DLA suspended, or you could receive a new ESA50 and not return it in time.
These issues are appealable, but it's a lot easier to avoid a problem than have to get out of it.
